Abstrak

This study investigated the implementation of contextual science learning using surrounding natural resources to enhance the understanding of science concepts among fifth-grade students. The research was conducted at SDN Parang 1 and SDN Unggulan in Magetan Regency, Indonesia, where the learning process integrated local environmental potentials such as school gardens, nearby forests, and water sources. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, involving classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis to collect comprehensive data. The findings revealed that the use of local natural resources provided meaningful learning experiences that strengthened students’ conceptual understanding of science. The contextual approach successfully linked scientific concepts to real-life situations, encouraged active participation, and increased students’ motivation to learn. Teachers were able to facilitate inquiry-based activities, allowing students to explore and construct knowledge through direct interaction with their environment. The study concludes that contextual science learning based on local natural resources is effective in improving both conceptual mastery and engagement in science education. These results highlight the importance of integrating local potentials into curriculum design to create relevant and sustainable learning experiences that support science literacy at the elementary school level
